Are you making this mistake with your Facebook fan page?

mistakes facebook marketing

So you own a business and not too long ago you started a Facebook page. Ultimately you know what you want your Facebook page to do–same as any other marketing tool you have used. You want that page to produce sales. So you start posting things like we offer this service, or this is what we typically do for the service or we offer these products. And then what happens. Nothing. No one really liked your fan page and no one really interacts much with it. So you did the only logical thing you could do. You stop putting efforts into Facebook. If this sound familiar then keep watching.

Here’s your problem. Facebook is a place where people hang out to kill some time, or relax or to find funny or interesting stuff. No one uses Facebook to find a product or service. Lets say you own a pest control company. If  someone is looking for a someone to get rid of spiders they are not going to go to Facebook to find one. It just doesn’t work that way. Rather they will google something like, Best spider exterminator in Denver Colorado. So making your Facebook page a sales blog of all the services your offer is basically a total waste your time and money. Its like a construction worker who is using a hammer to dig a trench. A hammer is great tool but you have to use it the right way and for the right tasks.

So let me share with you what you could do with Facebook. I have a client who just happens to offer pest control service. I took control of his Facebook page. I started posting funny stuff. Check it out this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/All-Star-Pest-Control/245155098903479

Now we promoted this Facebook page’s comedic appeal to his local market and in 6 months we had thousands of Facebook fans. These fans had enjoyed the comics and had connected with the page. then every time we posted more funny pictures, those Facebook users would come back and re engage with his page. Every time those Facebook users interacted with this company’s page they saw the company logo and began to develop a loyalty to the brand. Then down the road any time one of those fans decided they needed pest control, guess who they called? They would use to my clients services because we had developed top of mind awareness and we had developed a loyalty and a connection with them! Now if we had just filled his Facebook page with ads and promotions and copy about how his pest control was less than the competition or how he used a power sprayer and bla bla bla what do you think would have happened. Nobody would have connected with his page. No one would have fan liked his page. People wouldn’t have shared his page with others and the whole campaign would have been a waste of time.
